College Orientation

College student... Me?? A college student?

It didn't quite hit me until orientation last week.

The night before orientation, I sat on the phone and complained to my boyfriend how I would rather not go. I didn't think I would have a good time. I didn't think I would meet anyone worth talking to... but I was wrong. Sure, the whole orientation process was a bust... no one said it would be anything but boring. That's what orientation is, a chance to familiarize yourself to the campus with endless tours and sessions... not to mention, extremely pumped, over the top, crazy, insane orientation leaders. I guess they made those 3 days better for us. Except my orientation leader's uber enthusiasm got a bit old after a few minutes. I was overly irritated, I'm not gonna lie. But that was the least of my worries.

As selfish as it sounds, I wanted to meet new people so I wouldn't feel so sad and lonely and alienated for the next 70 hours or so. Surprisingly, it wasn't hard at all to meet new people. Everyone was eager to introduce themselves and shake your hand. The basics were always asked-- name and hometown, and then you build on after that. The thing I realized is that people like to talk about themselves. Get comfortable enough around them and they'll answer all your questions. Now that's not to say that everyone's self centered, its just that these people don't know you. It's a thrill being around people that can't write a whole book about your life... people that don't know your most embarrassing stories or the scariest moment of your life.

Another thing I realized is that everyone you meet, for the most part, will remind you of someone back home. Even if they don't remind you of a specific person, you'll get this feeling like you've met them before. It'll feel like you've known them since 6th grade. That was the situation I came across with the group of girls I met and hung out for the duration of orientation. These girls reminded me of my girls back home. They were loud and insane, much like myself and my girls. It was amazing how easily we all got along. They definitely made everything quite interesting, from making fun of our OL's, to screaming our lungs out during a game of "Survey Says." I think we surpassed the recommended time limit for fun.

But amidst of all the fun and games, some serious decisions had to be made. What courses to take, how many hours to take, what time to take them, which campus and which teacher? The very frustrating process got to the best of me. I was stressed and discouraged at the same time. I felt like every decision could make or break me.

Also, I had to deal with university business on my own. I had to make appointments with different offices and get my questions answered. As I walked through buildings, I caught a reflection of myself on one of the buildings and it hit me, "I am a college student." Whether I liked it or not, I am an adult with responsibilities. It was too much to bear. I had to deal with everything on my own. No more mommy dealing with mean old ladies behind desks. I was the one that had to deal with them. I was the one that had to wait in line. I was the one who got smirked at with my silly questions. I was the one that had to grow up in point 25 seconds. It was me, it was all me. And from now on, it will be me, and only me... On my own. A freshman college student. Fresh off of high school. Pushed into the real world. Forced to grow up...

After a long month of endless competitions, I was finally able to breathe a relax for a bit. I had the whole day off from drill team and work yesterday and I enjoyed every minute of it. I cleaned my room and laid on the couch and watched movies with my mom and my sister the whole day. I miss spending time with them. Later on in the night, I went to the movies with Kirk. I made him watch "Failure to Launch" and he loved it! He won't admit to it but I know he loved it. hahaha. Then we hung out at his house and watched more movies lol. Yesterday was just a great big movie day for me. It was wonderful.

Competition was great. The Woodlands is beautiful. Drama was inevitable. We brought home a gajillion awards. Great job Martinettes!

I know no one reads this thing anymore but sometimes its just good to write stuff down. When I'm feeling utterly lost and confused, angry and upset, I write. Most of the time its a private entry. And that's why I love Xanga... I can write entries that only I can read.

Im afraid my wall is crumbling before your eyes...

So I got out of competition way early tonight so I'm home chillin. Today and tomorrow, we're hosting Crowd Pleasers competition at school so we have to both work it and perform in it. My shift tonight was suppose to be from 6:30-10. Yeah, it definitely ended at 8:30, so it was cool. It wasn't that bad at all. The time went fast and I actually got to watch the performers. Tomorrow, however, will be HORRIBLE! We have to be in school at 7am-10pm. Oh my geeze I hate competitions! I love performing but all the waiting is just unbearable! We have to wait till every single performer is done to do awards. So basically, there's a whole lot of sitting around and waiting.

Drill team is my life right now... wait when is it not? lol But this whole month is all about competitions. We just went to one two weekends ago and we're hosting one right now and next weekend we're leaving to The Woodlands for our major competition. So I guess you could say that I'm a pretty busy person which really sucks because I don't get to spend any time with Kirk.

So prom is in less than 2 months and we have everything set already! I am so effin excited! I picked up my dress last weekend and it is now at my house taking over the corner of my parents bedroom lol. Our group is set and we have EVERYTHING planned. We already made reservations at the restaurant and we are putting in a down payment on monday for the limo, and we also have before and after prom plans set already WOOT! How exciting!

Well my phone's ringing so I'll talk more later
